Just got a $20 nascar steeringwheel from compgeeks, which would have been cool, but it didn't come with the mounting clamps in the box, so I'm using these huge Craftsman bar clamps and a 2X4 to keep it on the table now. :|

But anyway, I'm having trouble finding a good driving game. I have porsche unleased, which is cool, but I played it a lot before and it's looking kind of dated. I lost my need for speed 4, but I have 3, except it's the one that came with my old Voodoo 3 3000 and it doesn't recognize my geforce 3 and it's limited to 640X480 for some reason. I have midtown madness 2, except all the buildings are see through, and I don't know how to fix the bug. Driver seems cool, just driving around town, but I can't seem to get out of the configuration section once I go into it, so I'm screwed there, because without changing the controls, I can't get by the first part of the "quest" game, because I need to be able to do the tricks.

What's a good street driving game, something with lots of traffic and realism?

richleader, strictly speaking about PC games, the best driving game that I have played on my PC is NFS-PU. After that, Midtown Madness 2 would be next on my list. Since I can't offer you any other info, consider this an agreement w/ your choices and a BUMP.

Oh, using CraftsMan clamps is a nice touch, damn I love CraftsMan tools :D

Do a cheat search on Driver. There is a config file that if you delete the line for the tryout from fail = restart or something along those lines, you can continue with the rest of the game even if you fail the tryout. I don't remember the details, it has been along time since I played that game, but I did enjoy it tremendously.

Hehe, here's a pic of the setup: link That wheel woulda been a hot deal at $20, but without the clamps? There was no warning and it was sold as brand new, so Compgeeks got their first angry letter from me, we'll see what happens.

I guess I was a little hard on Porche Unleashed. I had some fun with that earlier this morning, I guess I was just looking for something more graphically up to date, but there really isn't a GT3 for the pc yet that can take advantage of a Geforce 3 et al. Of course, Porsche looks crisp at 1600X1200 with FSAA on, but it really doesn't have the wow factor that even Driver has. I figured out my problem with that one, I had two buttons configured to do the same thing. I'm still not very proficient with it, but I do enjoy the free drive part in miami. The traffic feels like I'm really driving--except very irresponsibly... and that's what I want out of a game, not F1, not smash-em ups like Carmageddon, just realistic street driving in sweet cars with a touch of mayhem thrown in.
