anyone know something that's not too expensive, but good to hook up to a lappy and tv in a dorm room?

I have Z560's which is overkill some people think but I love blastin other people back on our floor when they play gay music. Someone was seriously playing tribal music the other day which is fine but not when you are blasting it. The logitech 340's are a good value for the money and IIRC the 540's too. Not sure how you plan on hooking them to a tv though.

I've got a 5.1 z640 setup for my computer in the dorm, and it's plenty for gaming. We've also got a 4 speaker setup (older speakers, not sure what brand) connected to the TV, and that's blasts away just fine too. I'd just choose whatever is easiest to install and can blast loud.

I would say Cambridge PC Works but they discontinued making them. I have a set hooked up to a TV downstairs and I gave a set to my friend for christmas and they're pretty decent considering I paid 20 bucks for each set. The Inspire 2.1's are nice looking and small but kinda pricey. Yamaha YST MS201 are okay, I got my uncle a set last week and they sound pretty good. 29 bucks with a 10 MIR and free shipping isn't half bad.

Think I saw Gateway.com had the Z-340's for around $22 after rebate, free shipping (possible no tax). Good deal on more bass than you'll ever need. The speakers sound great, but not -so- great that you'd be worried about trashing them.

How about those 'Digital Media 2000' from the back of a white van. I heard they were heavy which means that they must be good. They are MSRP $2000 and you can get a pair for $150. So they must be a good deal! /sarcasm-off

I say get a cheap pair of headphones from office depot clearance bins. Bought my behind the head Labtech Axis-002's for $2 from there.

Your life will be much, much better if you get a high-quality pair of headphones and a small set of mid-quality computer speakers. Dorm walls are thin, and people don't take it very well when they're trying to sleep and your speakers are blaring out music with high bass.
