My brother, sister, and I are thinking about organizing a trip to take our dad to MT for a week in the early summer. He has been having a hard time lately, divorcing our mom, and just had to have a stent put in after having chest pains last week. We were visiting him yesterday, and he was just feeling really down, so we started to talk about doing a trip around his 60th b-day in June. Any suggestions for a nice, relaxing spot? I'm envisioning renting a cabin by a lake or something.

...and if you need specifics, I'll be glad to give details. Off the top of my head, I would say you should stay at the Many Glacier Lodge that is located within the park. Even though it isn't a private cabin, it offers lots of things that a private cabin doesn't.

I followed the Lewis and Clark Trail west from Missoula a few years back - great scenery.

Just don't go to eastern Montana, it sucks. Actually, I-94 sucks all the way to Wisconsin.

Check out Bigfork - right next to flathead lake, lots of nice cabins, close to kalispel and glacier national park - very quiet and very spectacular

This was going to be my recommendation, that or the Best Western on Flathead. Gorgeous country up there.

thanks for all the tips, I think I'll be looking into Bigfork. I hope my sister will be able to handle spending such a quiet week in an area with no nightlife, etc.
