Good desktop radio / CD player

My father in law is looking for a desktop radio, and asked for my advice. (I didn't have anything meaningful to contribute other than that I would wait for one with HD radio.).

So far, he is looking at the Bose Wave Radio. To me it seems a little overpriced for the features and sound.

The Tivoli all in one sounds good, but it is even pricier does not include HD.

Both the Boston Acoustics and Cambridge Soundworks desktop units look kind of cheesy.

How about the Polk I-Sonic?

I, too, once rolled my eyes at the BOSE wave radio. Then someone bought one and gave it to Mom.
Bottom line is whether the end user can operate it adequately, and it's PERCEIVED quality that ultimately determines consumer opinion.

The BOSE sounds great, has operated for years without hiccup and then there's the NAME RECOGNITION that all consumers fall back on .

If my Mom can groove to the thing, your FiL will probably like it as well.
