This week I gave a bit to March of Dimes and Wendy's adoption cause...animal charities have been hit hard with the economy and I am very active in them.

This cat Patches is a Bengal adoption that was neglected and found preggers. She needs $64 more for surgery and care out of $200. I donated $50 of it.

http://spotsandstripesbengalcatrescue.chipin.com/emergency-vet-care-for-pregnant-calico

This cat Honey is another Bengal I donated $50 too. https://www.facebook.com/#!/bengalrescuenetwork

She was misdiagnosed for her chronic diarrhea for 2 years. Now she has been saved and they are making right all the wrongs. They have $750 raised out of a bit over a $1000.

Paypal: donate@bengalrescuenetwork.org. Please include "FOR HONEY" in the subject or comments.

if you want to donate to something else, I won't stop you. The thread is about giving back and I do understand not all of us can. If you can though, even a buck send it somewhere today. It ends up making a difference.

Both the charities above are tax deductable AFAIK.

There's an old couple about 20 miles from me who barely have anything to scrape together; they just barely get by. The wife ended up hospitalized yesterday; the husband was rather distraught - they don't have the money for gas to go to and from the hospital for him to visit (it's about 30 miles each way.) On top of that, we knew that they were running low on hay for their animals. So this evening, my wife and I went to a farm that was selling hay, got a load & dropped off hay & gas money to the guy - tough old bastard, vietnam vet, wounded in action, disabled, but too proud to ever ask anyone for help. He looked like he was ready to cry. Tomorrow, we're going to see if we can pay for television to her room separately (so that she's not billed for it.) Her roommate is unable to speak, they can't afford the $7 a day for cable to the hospital room; it's got to be pretty boring in there.

500 kitties, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 donations for kitties and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy.

I can think of much better uses for money than "rescuing" animals.

Like DrPizza's use.

If you read the OP I have stated I not only give to 'people causes', but the animal ones are getting harder to find money in this economy.

Between March of Dimes and Wendy's Adoption program I gave $50. I had donated a buck or two to various kids with cans outside stores as well.

Not saying Dr. Pizza is making up stuff, but I get to hear a lot of over the top stories from people I try to get more active in donations of time or money...most of them totally making it up to get out of giving.

It's funny to ask someone about "how's that little old lady doing with the gout?" (that they supposedly cooked for and helped her financially only a month earlier) and get back "what old lady? I don't know any old ladies?!"

"Oh yeah....her..ummmm yeah...uummm; yeah I just saw her yesterday she's fully cured!"

Way to go Dr. You're making a real difference in people's lives. Nice.

As for myself, me and my wife have been helping this couple with repairs to their house. The husband has a brain disease that makes him unable to remember much and with constant micro seizures. He is unable to drive and will be released from the military this Sept. His wife has serious health issues, they have 3 children living at home and one is disabled. We do what we can. Oh yes, were also paying for the building material out of our own money, it's up to a thousand now. They have promised to repay us when they can.

There it is...

If you want people to help out with charities you feel strongly about it might help if you don't insinuate that they are liars.

"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Anyone who goes out of his way to help others is welcome to whatever attitude he wants, in my book.

Sticks and stones, as they say.

There is a difference between helping others for self-fulfillment/good will and helping others for recognition.

Sure, there's a difference, but it's pretty insignificant, when you look at the big picture. The important part is helping others. Everything else is small beans.

P.s. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's helping the less fortunate. I'm not saying he's doing it JUST for recognition, but the fact that he blatantly advertises it on these forums every other day is morally wrong and very annoying.
