For the same price, there are also decent standalone pocket scanners. For your average non-professional use, one of these will probably satisfy most people:

Hell, I still use pocket readers at work. They're super quick and give you generic codes, basic data, and I/M readiness. I am a believer in Autel...yeah, it's Chinese, but no one even touches the capabilities of their products for the money.

How do you piss off a Snap-On salesman? Show him your $1000 scanner (that's cheap) communicating with every single module on a German luxury car, and performing functions on said modules that his $5000-10000 scanners can't.
