Good Deal?

Ok, so my boss said that I could buy our ex-CFO's work computer for $310 if I want it. It's a Dell XPS Gen 3 desktop with a P4 550 3.4, Intel i925X Chipset, 1gb PC2-4300, ATI X800GT, 80gb SATA, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, Audigy 2. It also comes with a Dell 2001FP LCD. So for $310, is this a good deal?

If I needed a computer, I would probably jump on it; the hardware's a tad old (still nice), but that 20.1" LCD really puts it into 'good deal' territory for me. It's still a pretty nice computer, actually probably a decent gaming rig (for now), and with that monitor it sounds like gravy to me 😉.

Ya, well it was priced at $2,800 Sept. '04 so it's depreciated quite a bit for a 3 year value. Would I be able to swap the chip with a Core 2 Duo on the board if the chipset is i925X???

Conroe, Conroe XE and Allendale all use Socket LGA775; however, not every motherboard is compatible with these processors.

Supporting chipsets are:

* Intel: 865PE/G/GV/G, 945P/PL/G/GZ/GC, P65P/G, 975X, P/G/Q965, Q963, 946GZ/PL; X/P/G/Q 3x
* NVIDIA: nForce4 Ultra/SLI X16 for Intel, nForce 570/590 SLI for Intel and nForce 650i Ultra/650i SLI/680i SLI.
* VIA: P4M800, P4M800PRO, P4M890, P4M900, PT880 Pro/Ultra, PT890.
* SiS: SiS662
* ATI: Radeon Xpress 200 and CrossFire Xpress 3200 for Intel

Sorry, but doesn't look like it. Maybe a Pentium D, I dunno for sure, but not a Core 2.
