I've posted multiple threads about looking for a new (to me) vehicle and getting rid of my '01 Civic for something which has more space and can haul a decent load.

At first I was looking at light trucks but saw that the price for a decent used one (Tacoma, Frontier) was still pretty high. I then started looking at Subaru's and settled on an Impreza WRX Wagon but trying to find one of those is pretty difficult.

Now a friend of mine is selling his 2001 Tacoma TRD. Truck from the south so it's seen barely any snow, extended cab, 115k miles, 4x4, very well maintained w/ all the maintenance records. He wants $6,000

I can sell my Civic and get maybe 2.5-3k for it and pay for the rest out of pocket. Won't have the performance like the subaru but I have a motorcycle and skydiving for that kinda stuff.

What say ATG?

Seems like a pretty fair price. Not sure if the rusty frame issue was with the 2001's, but being that it's from the south and you live in the south, it shouldn't be much of an issue - just take a look beforehand and if it's still solid at this point then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the heads up on the frame. I'll climb underneath and do a check, and be sure to ask the owner about it. I live in the South right now, but for all I know I could be in the northeast this winter.

That's cheap. If it's in good shape, it's really cheap.

If you don't buy it, send me a PM. I might.

Nope, Tundra (which replaced my Tacoma in May 08 after Toyota bought it back due to frame rust). If the frame had been solid, I would probably still have that truck.

Now that I'm moving to the southwest, rust won't be an issue. 🙂 I don't 'need' another vehicle, but $6k is damn cheap.

Slight error...

2001 Tundra SR5, V8, TRD package, 4x4, towing package. 115k miles. Still a good deal?

I got the models confused because an old tundra looks like a new Tacoma.

2001 was only the 2nd year. The first year I know they had major engine problems with the V8. But being a 2nd year and over 100k I would hope they have been fixed/worked out by now.

Kingcab or regular?

Also Toyota issued a recall on 2000-2003 model year Tundras regarding rust problems of a rear crossmember. Make sure that is taken care of.
