Heh apparently so.... they seem to be doing well no?

Man but must admit I used to have it, as my first isp then got rid of it after I got cable.
I bet majority of the people here had AOL one time or another.

Prodigy, back around 92 or 93, was my first venture online. Then I was into BBSs for a few years, then a couple of mom and pop operations in the DC area. I used AOL for the 10 free hours or whatever they were offering back then, and that's about it. Never paid for it. Then college access, and been with BellSouth since 97 (dialup and now DSL).

Never really used AOL as an ISP. I think I used the encyclopedia thing and the chatroom. Chatrooms weren't so bad back then (95ish), not alot of immature moe-rons runnin around thinkin they're l33t and what not.

I had AOL back then because that's all I knew. I went through several ISPs and now, I use my school's connection and free ISPs.

Of course, I guess I can't complain much...I did sign up for a free month of AOL recently to get $10 of my 50% off DVDs at Office Depot :)

I got a free year of AOL with my notebook. I think this will be about the only time I'll actually have use for it. :p

omg the aol commercials are so gay, they have this guy say, "oh yeah it's amazingly fast and secure" the damn thing kicks u off every half hour, i hate aol. they charge some insane amount like 25 bux a month, damn u could get dsl for cheaper than that! ne one try to "FREE" winfire dsl, the lowest one (i think it's 150 kbps or somethin like that) is free but u hafta buy the 200 dollar modem, could be hot, i dunno, my gpa might try it since currently he's using the free costco internet service, lol

aol rules..... haha, but you guys gotta admit they have chat rooms to past times, when your are totally bored outta your mind....

well, would i be considered a aol user if I just pay $10.00 for the use of aol community and use my own dial up?

just thought i ask, and I would never pay the full 22.95 for their service.... especially with free isp's around.

lates..

Hey bout that winfire dsl,

the hot deal is that if you have it in your area, you sign up and say you have your own modem....
and you only pay the startup fee's like 30-40 or so, and then you just go buy the same exact modem on Egay for like $100-120.

now thats a good deal. haha.
if not, keep things to yourself.. haha, justkidding....
thought it might help those who don't know already.

vteccruzn....

Vteccruzn,
There isn't anythign AOL has that you can't find around the web. Like chat rooms? Even Yahoo has decent chat rooms compraed to AOL, and they don't charge 10 dollars a month. But frankly, I'd rather have this other new service, 2TinCan&String than pay for AOL. Thyme warner will make it even worse.

buffboy - That must be how it's so "secure". It keeps changing your IP address every 30 minutes by kicking you off and forcing you to redial.

It's not a bug...it's a feature!
