yet another question: Does the OD paper come with a listing of recommended settings for different printers?

The info sheet inside the box has a note that says Epson may require the Glossy Film setting. Mine looked terrific on the "premium glossy" setting and I have yet to try the glossy film setting. (Epson 1270)

No additional printer info.

To RaginCajun:
Take a look at the thread at fatwallet:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?start=41&catid=18&threadid=18970

The member JRinOKC is openly declaring that he's fixing various attributes of it.
Besides, I have seen the actual coupon with the same code 5243 at office depot and it had a completely different design and showed an expiration date of 1/27/01. A CSR showed it to me. I've read about this forgery on some other thread too, but I can't find it now. It was clearly stated there by the person doing the modifications that he had taken the 10 off 50 coupon and modified some aspects of it. I have seen the actual 10 off 50 coupon and it does look just like the 15 off 50 coupon forgery in circulation.

If people are still able to use it, that's good. I'm not pontificating on the issue of illegally using a forged document to get money; I merely warned that it may be risky.

EDIT: It wasn't so risky before 1/27/01 since the actual coupon said that we could just mention the coupon code to get the discount and the document was unnecessary anyway. We were using the document just so we didn't have to argue the point with CSRs who had never seen the coupon and didn't know that the coupon said that just mentioning the number was enough. But, now that the coupon has expired (at least according to the printed coupon), it's rather more risky.

I wouldn't get the OD paper. If it is repackaged Konica QP, Costco has it cheaper. You can get 50 sheets for $9.77. It's 10.4mil, 94 brightness. Pick it up at Costco for no shipping, or you can order it online (probably UPS ground rates). Here's the link:

I've been using the "Other Photo Papers" and PhotoRetIII setting when I print with the OD paper. Perhaps I should experiment... The pictures look pretty good to me, but maybe I can make them better.

I printed two pictures out that were the same. One on the OD paper, and one on the 4"x6" HP Premium Glossy Photo Paper. The image on the HP had a warmer look, but I think the OD paper looked more accurate. Upon closer examination it looked like the OD paper was whiter than the HP paper. This will give you a larger dynamic range.

MagisterLudi has a valid point. Why hassle with OD sales and coupons when you have a readily available source at Costco. Who knows if the OD paper is the same, at least Konica is more of a "brand name."

I brought some of the OD paper into work today to print on the HP 950C that is here. Guess what, no scratch marks on the paper. I must have got a bum P1100. Looks like I'll be giving HP a call...

Just got the last 2 left in my local OD. I was able to use the coupon too. It didn't work the first time and the lady said maybe it was not over $50. I added one $.20 glue then it worked. My receipt shows coupon #5243 $15.00- so the coupon may be valid.

Now I have the papers, do you guys know where I can get cheaper cartridges for Epson 870? Maybe this should be on I WANNA...

thanks for the great deal,

Onvia used to be the best shot for those cartridges but not any more. I'm also looking for a cheap source! I haven't looked at outpost---free shipping.
Now if I could just get a hold of that cartridge chip re-programmer I could refill my own! I think you can get one if your in the UK.

For Epson 870 users:
I just printed one page with multiple photos taken from digital camera (Nikon 800). The Photos are mainly composed of people with background and one vase with flowers.

I print it on both Premium Photo Paper from Office Depot and on Epson Photo Paper.

On the surface, OD paper appears of higher quality. It's thicker and it's more like film than Epson's.

On human figures, OD paper has more problem with shadows. It tends to be blockier. For the background, OD paper has more problem with harder tones too. There are horizon stripes or blockiness on the green wall while it does not show up on Epson paper. The flowers look great on both. Anything bright looks nice on both. Skin colors look more natural and true to the original on Epson.

In general, OD paper has more problem with darker brown. The verdict: Epson Photo Paper looks better in general. Out of perfect score of 100, I would give Epson 85, OD 79. If your photos are mostly nature and not too many dark rocks, OD would 83. I would consider the printout of Epson close to photo you print from stores. I wouldn't think OD close ot photo because of the problems with shadows. I have never tried Epson Premium Photo Paper. It might be better.

I think my result only applies to Epson 870. If you don't use this printer, you should not take my result too seriously. $37.30 for 200 premium photo paper is still a great deal.

Note: my Photoshop is in 320dpi. All photos were shrinked and resampled from 72dpi to 320dpi.

Hope this helps someone.

Since the genuine Epson paper is $39.98 for 200 sheets at
Costco (2 x $19.99 for 100 sheets), this OD paper hardly seems
a deal in light of your review, and in light of the fact that
you're only saving a whopping $2.68.

No reason at all to consider switching from Epson...

Kwad Guy --

At the risk of sounding a total wooz, could I ask you to post a link to the Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper at Costco online? I looked high and low, using both their search engine and branching down through categories, and couldn't find it.

Thanks much.

Doug, there probably was no link at Costco's to view their Epson paper product. Just havta go visit to check it out. I remember seeing it there before. Heck, I'm going today - if you want a description of it...

Office Depot has a $15 offer in Long Beach (California)Press-Telegram today. You can use in store with the ad or online at:

I happened to go to the Costco in Long Beach (Signal Hill), CA today at lunchtime. They have maybe 6-8 packages of the Epson paper there. It looked sort of dusty like it had been there awhile. The description on the package didn't give any specifications on the paper, so I don't know what specific type it is.

BTW, I didn't see any of the Konica paper there at all.
