I just got back from Best Buy, where I was eyeing a copy of Microsoft Encarta Reference Suite 2001 DVD when I noticed it was marked $49.99. There's also an additional $10 rebate from MS. Now I know most online retailers sell this for $70 or more... Buy.com has it for $60.95 but it's backordered. I thought, "Cool, must be a mis-mark!" I brought it up to the register, and lo and behold it ran up at $39.99! I think that's supposed to be the sale price this week for the CD version only. AFAIK, all Best Buys usually have their systems programmed with the same prices.

I also had my $5 survey voucher, so it was, for me, $37-plus after tax, with another $10 still to come.

Oh, please forgive my ignorance, I didn't know I should be comparing prices for brand-new DVD software to prices for used CD copies on eb*y before I posted here. I'll make sure I check there first next time, ok?

Sounds like a great deal! Anyone else tried this yet? It's a long drive to the nearest Best Buy where I'm at right now.

Purchased DVD for $39.99 today; it was in their Sunday flyer.
$10 rebate applies.

Caput, you're right, I just dug Sunday's ad out of the recycle bin and saw it. I didn't notice it Sunday because the picture is of the CD version, but inside the yellow tag that has the price it says in small writing: "CD or DVD".

I suppose this means it could easily be used for a "pricematch + % of the difference" somewhere else, if they have it (not every place carries the DVD).

If there's a COSTCO B&M near your place, you can get the 7-CD set (2001) for $17 after rebate.
