I completely agree, I hate touchpads. I looked at a bunch of Dell's the other day and it seems like they are phasing it out also. 🙁

EDIT: Also newegg has some reviews on this laptop. Their version has a couple slightly different options - ie DVD-RW. Other than a couple things they are exactly the same. Everyone over there really likes it.

I saw that in yesterday's ad, but my eyes were drawn more to this one.

With a much faster (and dual core) processor, twice the ram, same size hard disk, and I believe better onboard graphics, for $250 more, which one would be the better buy?

Personally, I'd hold off a week or three on buying any system or laptop right now, to make certain the new, lower, AMD cpu prices are reflected in the prices. 🙂

Im thinking about picking up the compaq myself. I picked up that hp thats $699 last week but i didnt know that compaq would be so cheap.
It looks pretty sweet . The hp is cool but its bigger than I thought it would be. I like my dads 14" a lot more.
The media center is nice though and its a great pc. But for $100 more the compaq has a lot more modern tech with the x2, sata hdd and ddr2 , geforce6150munless you want a bigger screen, remote, media center and the lightscribe.

I called about the 15% restocking fee and they said as long as im buying a model thats the same price or above they'd waive the fee.

It's built a lot better than the $500 Compaqs sales lots of people are buying.. feels more solid for one thing (the keys a chassis). Then it comes with a DVD burner and larger screen, 8 cell batt instead of 6 cell lasting longer, and a real processor, Turion instead of Sempron all for similar price.

Will you game on it? No. But it can handle everything else just fine.

Well I picked up one of these today. It seems very solid. Nice big keyboard. It is also a lot faster than I was expecting. The battery looks like it is going to get over 3 hours per charge. No it isn't going to play games, but I think it is probably the best you wil find under $750.
