No, sorry.

Funny that you would post that however, since I'm a air cooled VW owner and used to work as a VW mech. in Eugene.

Yea, I knew that. Can you come on over and get my 72 running again? I parked it for about two weeks and can't get it to start now. It'll start on starting fluid or gas poured straight into the bowl, but dies as soon as it runs out. I ran a fuel line straight from the pump into a gas can and it wouldnt go, unbolted the fuel pump in and slapped on a (used)spare I had laying around and still no go. Haven't had time to kick it again recently, but I need to get it going so I can take it into the shop again as my insurance company is dickin me around on getting some body work done after an accident last spring.

I would get a elect. fuel pump if I were you.
(I have one in my car)

Get a rotary pump though. The diaphragm type will hold pressure and leak fuel into the cylinders, washing out the oil and doing your engine NO good. The rotary type won't do this. They also last MUCH longer since there's no diaphragm to wear out. :)

But with the symptoms I described would you be looking at the fuel pump? That's where I've been focusing, though I've been thinking about getting into the carb next. I picked up non ac vw daily driver(the beetle used to be it) which is why it ended up sitting. Before it was parked it ran pretty solid except that in the mornings I would have to pump the gas pedal and it would die after a few seconds, then it would start up and run fine all day.

Well from the way you described it, it sounded like you aren't getting fuel from the pump.

Or did I miss something?

If you ARE getting fuel, it could be plugged jets or a leaking accelerator pump in the carb. OR a MAJOR vacuum leak....
