Get a rotary pump though. The diaphragm type will hold pressure and leak fuel into the cylinders, washing out the oil and doing your engine NO good. The rotary type won't do this. They also last MUCH longer since there's no diaphragm to wear out.![]()

But with the symptoms I described would you be looking at the fuel pump? That's where I've been focusing, though I've been thinking about getting into the carb next. I picked up non ac vw daily driver(the beetle used to be it) which is why it ended up sitting. Before it was parked it ran pretty solid except that in the mornings I would have to pump the gas pedal and it would die after a few seconds, then it would start up and run fine all day.
