Good deal on a Nikon D50?

Hey guys - my buddy is selling off his DSLR. Is this a good deal for one? ($500)

D50 camera body with body cap
Nikkor 50mm AF 1.8D prime lens with both caps
Sandisk Ultra II 1 gigabyte SD card
Nikon shoulder strap
USB cable
Composite cable
Battery and charger
Instruction manuals
All included software (Picture Perfect, 123 of Digital Imaging)

You can get a brand new d40 with the lens for about the same price.
You would just have to ad the SD card, which are rather cheap these days.

I am not sure you are getting a great deal
BTW most of the stuff you listed comes with any new camera so don't focus on the 'extras'
BTW 2 the 50mm 1.8 is a $100 lens, very nice for what it does, but if you own no other nikon lens go for the d40 instead.

I disagree. In comparison, the D40 is crippled when sitting side-by-side with the D50. The D50 will give you the top LCD, more AF points, in-camera focusing motor (which vastly opens your options for AF lenses), and other stuff that I can't think of off the top of my head.

If the D50 is in great shape with little shutter acuations, it's the better deal.

considering i bought a brand new d50 with 18-55 kits lens and all that extra stuff, plus a 50mm 1.8 for about $700 about 1-2 years ago, i don't think its that great of a deal, especially if its used.

SLR Camera equipment retains it's value very well, though.

ah. well, them naybe it is a decent deal

troy/others - nope not a pro by any means. Been wanting to dabble with a DSLR for sometime now, just never gotten an opportunity to. It's not a hobby I plan on taking up just for the hell of it, always been interested in it. It has less than 500 shutter clicks according to him.
