Check this out...Intel 815E motherboard, built in NIC, 50x CD, floppy drive, 230watt PS, case with front USB ports, etc. for $208 + $18 shipping. You can't build a PC that cheap :) I built a 633mhz Celeron system with this for my parents for $350. Nice!

3 1/4 floppy$10.00

Every barebone system - Enlight, Asus, Tekram, Whatever I've seen are selling for more than the total cost of each components, may be they include the assembly charge.

Here's what I got Barebones

http://www.computersupersale.com/Product/special events/2001UPGRADE.htm

* Super Mid ATX Full 250W
Approved Case
OR Mid Translucent
* Sony 1.44 Floppy Drive
* 52X Delta CD-Rom Drive
*T-Bird 1.2G Approved Fan

T-BIRD 800,
ABIT KT7A NEW RAID,
w/2001 UpGrade MFG Part No:KT7RAID8002UP
Our Price: $393.99
+$21 Upgraded case/fan/300W power
$414 Celery killer with RAID and 133/266 FSB
$26 to ship to FL
Selling my Cel 400 to coworker for $300 - sweet.

Lowest cost for components (ibuyer.net):
Board: 159
CPU (OEM): 104
CPU cooler: 12
Case: 60?
Floppy: 10
CDROM: 30?

$375 so I'm paying +$39 for assembly/burn in/no hassle/1 shipping source-price - I'll take it. Wish I could wait for more KT133A boards to be available, but I'll snatch the $300 trade in while I can get it...

If you're going to crap on a post, you better be prepared to back it up. I challenge you to find a i815E motherboard for less than $100 (this even has a built in NIC, so try to find one less than $115) and a full tower case with front USB/multimedia jacks for less than $60. Plus, it's all assembled for you, you have one shipping charge, and you have a warranty from one place if anything goes wrong.

I bet you can't.

i second fritzo. the number one thing i would say is bring at least 10-15$ shipping for each individual item into the equation and this makes it worth it. not to mention the other things like ethernet and usb...

looks like a nice system to putz around with if you have the spare cash

First of all...no one crapped on your thread...we are simply stating we think that this is not a good deal.

Most any ma and pa shop in LA can beat that price with their pants down...Check the LA Microtimes for details if you don't believe me.

Using Microtimes December 15th, 2000 Edition (okay...were talking old prices here) from NEXCOM computers:

Intel D815EEAAL $110.00 (quoted recently) - NIC, sound, and video built in
Nexcom Mid ATZ 230W $30.00
Sony 48X $50.00
NEC floppy drive $10.00

Total $200.00 a month and a half ago using better components, and they will cut 10-20.00 off that price for picking it up with cash.

there's a variety of barebones system with no-name PII/celery MB's for under $150...these MB's all have integrated LAN, sound, and 8 MB video and come with a 52X CD-ROM and a crappy keyboard/mouse/speaker set-up.

All this a month and a half ago. There's the proof.

I'm going to sleep.

a normal price barebone is not a hot deal,
there are so many barebones in the market,
no need to make some new threads for barebones.
since we're knowledgeable, we follow the rule of this hot deal forum, so we won't make a barebone thread unless it's really at a hot deal price.

It's a good deal because Teram makes good stuff, and it's an expensive case. Dell and Compaq were using variants of that same case. This package normally retails for $230-$250 + $25 shipping.

Hey Fritzo...I hope there's no hard feelings man...I'm not saying it's a bad deal...just not a HOT deal. It's a reasonable deal for internet with shipping and all; but in L.A. there are literally 1000's of ma and pa shops in competion with one another so prices are much lower in L.A. for this kind of stuff, as I displayed above.

I just want to say again...there's is no such thing as thread crapping in any forum other than than the For Sale forum. If you were selling this barebone setup there I wouldn't have said anything because that would be "highly uncool" towards your prospective sale.

But here in Hot Deals were all working together for the collective good (in a way). I'm not saying I'm absolutely right, my opinion is simply that this particular deal isn't so hot. I certainly could be wrong. I've posted several deals that I thought were good and apparently others didn't think so...but it all good. Hopefully your comments, my comments, and the comments of others will give viewing members a larger information base with which to make better buying decisions.

Well, the title does say "Good deal on a barebones system"...not "WOW!!!! SUPER FLAMING HOT STEAL OF A DEAL ON A ROCKIN' SUPER COMPUTER!!!!!!!" It's still one of the coolest cases I've seen on a barebones system.

No hard feelings---I just hate when people go "Oh....you can get this for (*insert made up price*) somewhere else" and they don't have any links for proof. ;)

Hey! I sited my source...ask Anandtecher's from L.A. about Microtimes...it's a free publication full of adds from local shops that comes out every four weeks or so. I'm sure 98% of techer's from L.A. have a copy of Microtimes somewhere in their house/apartment...I've got about twenty issues dating back to 1997.

Checked out the MB manual (very well done and easy to follow)and it's got 66/100/133 override jumper:D, cpu/pci clock and cpu multipler overrides in bios:D. No cpu voltage adj:frown: but I've got an oc'd Celeron that runs fine at stock voltages. SOLD!

Went and got myself a LA MicroTimes (Jan 9,2001). Even looked up Nexcom specifically.
They had an Intel D815EEAAL for $159 not $109. I can't seem to find any 815E board for under $130? Any specific place in mind, anyone?

Bump both for nostalgic value as well as to ask the question, "why wasn't this archived?"
