Good Deal? Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE @ $110.00

I just placed an order at Staples using a $40 off $150 coupon. I was able to get a Maxtor 30GB hard drive (7200RPM with 2MB Cache) for @ $110 before tax. The original price was $149.98 and added $.88 Bic pens to bump the order up over $150. I also used Dash to get a $6 and change rebate (4%).

Is this a good deal? Could I have done better?

hmm, considering just a few days ago you could've gotten a 5400 45gig for $39.99, i'd say yes, you could've done better. if you REALLY needed a 7200, you could've gotten a small one just for booting and used the 5400 for storage. but quite frankly, my 45gig 5400 wd is as fast as my 7gig 7200 wd. hell, you could still get a 45gig from circuit city for $99.

This deal is pretty good...I got 1 from staples (the same one, 30gig/7200 rpm/2mb) a few days ago. I'm using the 15Gb version of this drive right now and I love it.

Not bad for 110 + tax, delivered to your door within 2 days.

yeah...but 5400rpm? No thanks. Besides I prefer maxtor over WD any day.

Oh yeah, and don't forget circuit city! They're not exactly angels about "lost rebates" either. Just my opinion.

not bad. I think buy.com had a deal for Western Digitals with the 30 off 150 and the mail in rebate for the retail versions bringing the 30gb to $99

My Maxtor 30GB is way faster, cooler(temp), and QUIETER than my friend's 45GB WD I borrowed to give him 20GB of Mp3's.....

Having extensive experience with both the current generation
Maxtors and Western Digitals, I can say there's no competition:
The Maxtors are quieter, cooler and faster.

I can also say that the ONLY current generation drive failure
I've had is with a Western Digital drive. That's only anecdotal,
but I've read that WD has experienced systematic failures in
some of their lines...

Good deal. I paid more then $170 for my 20gig Maxtor a year ago, although that came with a parallel zip that I sold for $50. Now all I need is another 20 for RAID!!

Just about any IDE drive can work for a Raid1 or Raid0 setup.

If you mix drives however....performance will be slow as your slowest drive...if not slower as the faster drive will have to start/stop data transfers (but I don't know how much of an impact this would be).
