I am in the navy, and I am would like to purchase a laptop. I went through navy-nex.com and they have a partnership or something like that with dell. Is this laptop worth the money? Also, should i get the 2.26 GHZ for $410.00 ?

The total is $2,359.94

Dump the 2gb of RAM upgrade...too expensive thru Dell.

Get the DVD burner.

The HD is overly expensive from Dell too...

Definitely do not do the 2.26ghz...not worth $410!

Agreed. Look at the price differences on the RAM and Hard Drive vs. the cheapest 5400 RPM drive. Dell will probably give you RAM with 5-5-5-15 timings.

The move from the 60 GB to 100 GB is $270. You can pick up the 100 GB 7200 RPM drive from Newegg for 210 and still have a 60 GB drive to spare. The RAM is a bit trickier since you can't get 1 stick( at least not on the Dell site.) You'll have to ditch whatever the Dell comes with and upgrade, probably more trouble than its worth unless you want 3-3-3-8 timings.

I would probably add a year to the warranty just in case.

I have a 60GB 7200 RPM drive in my XPS. It is plenty enough for me since I have a terrabyte of external drive storage and move stuff to/from the externals using FireWire.

At any rate. your price is about $500 less than what I can get a similar setup for using the Dell site.

It won't matter what RAM timings you get (if they are faster than what Dell puts in) since they most likely lock their RAM timings so with faster ram timings, it will just slow down to the BIOS defined timings.

My first question is are you stateside or overseas? If overseas he may not beable to pick up newegg prices. So the dell prices may be good for him. But i have to agree that the larger processor isn't worth that price.
