Hi,
A friend of mine decided to upgrade his graphis card to something better and as a result of which he is sending me his "old" GeForce3 TI500 :)

However he has been tinkering with the cooler on the card, alas it is broken. So I'd like to hear opinions as to what is the best cooling solution (non water). Noise is important.

I had a blue ORB on my KT266 chipset
once, the surface underneath was as flat as the Rocky Mountains (I had to flatten it myself), it was noisy and after 4 months it started on the typical BRRR......BRRR......BRRR......BRRR......BRRR......BRRR......BRRR......
BRRR......BRRR...... rythm. I replaced it with a small CPU aluminum profile without the fan (glued with Arctic Silver Epoxy).
A friend of mine had a similar experience with some other ORB for his CPU - so I am a bit weary of ORB quality (I have a Silverado on my CPU - THATS QUALITY).
Also, concerning ORB's; 29dBa is a bit on the noisy side, although I can possibly live with it.
Anybody have experienced problems with the crystal ORB's? Opinions?

I am NOT interested in overclocking, just in a happy GF3ti500 card in a standard case with your standard reasonable airflow. Any opinion on ORB's as well as other products are welcomed and highly appreciated.

Cheers

Just got a mail from my friend, it seems that the cooler on the GF3 goes, aehmn <clearing throat> Quoting him:

GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...
.GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR..
..GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...GBRFMHVRRRRR...

:)

Seriously on my present card I have a zahlman cooler and a 80 mmm Papst in front, but it requires a lot of room and inhibits other kinds of tinkering. If there is no other suggestions I'll probably go for the Crystal ORB, let's just hope it is better than the very crappy Blue ORBs.
