Good Color Laser Printer?

I'm looking for a decent color laser printer for my lab at school. We'll print out a number of figures, graphs, and also viewgraphs.

Thinking about the $2000 range, but cheaper is always better. Any suggestions? Any thoughts on the HP 4550?

Thanks,

Winston.

I installed the 4550 for one of my clients and have to say it's pretty dang nice. It does a nice job with color, warms up to the first print quickly and has a great set of features. I'm pretty sure you can get into this printer for under $2000 even locally...I think there's even a current rebate available from HP...

The place I work has both a HP color laserjet 4550n and a Lexmark optra C710n. Output quality on both is about the same. Asked the person who does the up keep on the printers about them. She would pick the Lexmark over the HP. Because the Lexmark's total maintenance and supplies cost over a year are lower.

i have the 4550dn and it is nice. duplex module, built in network adapter, and the 3rd paper tray. got it for around 1900 +tax of course. without the options youre probably looking at around 1200-1500. downside is that you need a buddy, kinda heavy 🙂

virulent,

<< downside is that you need a buddy, kinda heavy >>

? Either you work out way too much, or I need to get to a gym 😀

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking into the Lexmark C710. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Anyone else, please let me know your experiences.

Thanks,

Winston.

We just got a Tektronix (now owned by Xerox) Phaser 850. At my last job we had two (sub $2,000) Tektronix color lasers. This thing is by far faster and superior IMHO. I encourage you to check out solid ink printing before purchasing a color laser.
