I kinda like light blue, dark blue, and white.

Or gray, dark blue, and white.

Or black, bright blue, and white.

I would stay away from grey and black or any really dark colors. Greens are aways fun but I would suggest going for something origional like aqua & white or a burgandy and a light beige.

i think it pretty much depends of what kind of web site it is.

It all depend on what your content gonna be, and what mood you want to portray.

Personaly I have always liked light-green, light-blue, cream, light-grey, light-egg-plant, and light-brown for background. And, I like to have dark colour for text such as black, and dark-maroon/brown.

I would stay a way from the black & red site, because it make the text very difficult to read.

Lighter background & dark text offer the best clarity (have been use for 1000s of years), or you could try dark background & light text but is will distract from the content (if that is your intention).

The colour wheel theory is best use to create images/animations, becuause it give objects life & strenght (Red/Green, Blue/Orange, Yellow/Violet)...but don't use it for the background & content of the site, because it take away the attention from the content.
