Good Cigars?

Anyone have some suggestions? I had no idea they actually smelled and tasted good! I've been getting Swisher Sweets Red Tubes, but I am assuming there is stuff that's out there thats much better?

I've heard those suck, and not nearly as good as they used to be.

lol...who told you this? The best thing for you to do is to go to a cigar shop and ask for recommendations. Around $7-10 will get you a fair cigar.

lol...I only said that cigar would be "fair". Some people would say don't even waste you money on the cheap stuff and go for the ~$20 cigars.

That's like saying "hard drives" when someone asks for a good way to store data.

Cigars are all about personal preference. What I consider to be a good cigar may be awful for you. If you don't smoke cigars now, I think you want to start off with mild cigars. So stay away from Maduro wraps, or dark brown/black wrappers. Go for the English or Natural wraps.

Stick with some good name brands to start. H Upmann, El Rey del Mundo, Romeo y Julieta, etc. Find out what you like.

JR Cigar has some good deals where you can buy 5-packs of cigars to try them out, without having to buy a whole box. Do an Advanced Search and select Pack for box packaging. You can also check the wrappers that you want to include (EMS or Natural).

My suggestion is to try something like El Rey del Mundo Rectangulare to start off with. Nice medium cigar, and El Reys are always built well, with a nice consistent draw (so are many others).

If you plan on buying a box, invest in a cheap humidor to keep them moist. Once they dry out, you might as well throw them away.

My favorites are the CAO Cameroon's, Fuente Hemmingway Signatures, and the Torono Tributes. All of these you may consider "pricey", so if you are looking for some cheap that would be a step up from what you're smoking now, then the the Consuegra's are not too bad if you let them age in your humidor for a while.

And yes I think Cuban's are over-rated. I have had some great cubans before, but they weren't any better than some of the other ones I've smoked from the Dominican Republic and some other places.

You can do really well for 3.50 to $5.00 if you know what to ask for. I'm a big fan of El Rey de Mundo Robusto's myself, but latley I have been shying away from the maduro's because I haven't been smoking enough to be able to handle them as easily as I used to.

Dollar for dollar, you can ALWAYS do better than a cuban buying something legal. A cuban Romeo y Julieta will freuqently get $18-22 and I have yet to smoke a cigar worth more than $8 that I thought was worth the money. Look for cigars of Honduran and Nicaraguan origin unless you really want something mild. There are a lot of good Dominican cigars (and it's what I've been smoking latley), but there are a lot of crummy ones too...

Whatever you do, go to a descent cigar shop. If the managment isn'f knowledgable, affiable, and eager to make you a repeat customer, WALK OUT!!!

BTW, I get better prices from my local shop than J&R

Now that he found out that real cigars are around ~$7, I don't think he's interested.

Maybe cigars really aren't for you then...

Hemingway's are good.

Now that's worth a lol! $7 is way too much to spend for a cigar. Particularly if you don't smoke them often. For $4, you can get a great cigar and you won't know what your are missing.

I once spent $400 for a box of 25 Cohiba Siglo IV. While they were excellent cigars, they weren't any better than some Dominican cigars that I can buy for a third of that price.

Cao camerooon's are great. I love their cigarello's. The full size ones don't quite have the economy for me, I'm not much of a fan of the box press and I think the wrapper is too sweet. I pay $11 for these in person... after S/H, it's a break even

If you talk to somebody who enjoys cigars, they would agree that $7 is about the right price.

I disagree. I almost always smoke between $4 and $7 after tax. $7 is only for fridays and sepcial occasions.

Hell, I've always thought $7 cigars were still "cheap cigars" by most standards. I'm not big on the high dollar ones though. I have smoked several and I agree with the person who said a good cigar is the one that you like to smoke. I buy those $3.50 Tatiana's at my local Tinder Box. I enjoy the vanilla, cherry and rum ones. I'm sure most cigar experts would call those the White Zen of cigars but I like them, the 2nd hand smoke smells good and they have a nice taste. I find the high dollar cigars to be a bit too robust for me. But I can't deal with the cheap, gas station cigars either.

The only thing I don't like abot the Boxed pressed ones is that they sometimes burn un-even and you have to work pretty hard to get a good clean/smooth burn.

I'll have to go with DainBramaged on this one. I would say all of my favorites are 7+ (most right around 7). But that also depends where you buy them and where you are located. If I buy a box off the internet it brings most of them down to 4-6 dollars, but I usually prefer a lot of variety so I don't buy many boxes unless it's for a group of my friends or something.

It's very different from cigarettes. Many people who do not smoke, can smoke cigars. A lot of it is in the fact that you don't inhale.
