New Nook for e-ink, Nook Color (or AT&T Galaxy Tab deal) for full color tablet functionality.

what about those chinese tablets?

lousy screens for the tablets...but the nook color is a cheap color tablet.

keep an eye on hot deals. the galaxy tab was available recently for under 300 bucks. maybe you can catch a deal (but avoid the viewsonic)

I love my Huawei S7. Others will say it sucks, but it's really a great device. I pretty much read books exclusively on it.

what about those chinese tablets?

1. Low res screens (makes reading painful).
2. Often resistive screens (very unresponsive).
3. Little support (with Nook Color you get support from B&N and an active hacking community).
4. Often false claims ("dual core" when its just a single core CPU and DSP).
5. Few standards (tons of knock off tablets, one Nook Color).

This. The Chinese tablets make fun toys, but I wouldn't use them for real stuff. But, if you want to spend a mere 100 bucks, have no contract, then they're the only option. :p

As long as you don't get a Pandigital. Dear God, I had to screw with one of those things tonight, and though I already knew it was a piece of shit, that thing was so damn slow and unresponsive that I wanted to kill myself.

I'm looking for one as well.

I looked at the Nook Color and the new Nook Touch. The nook color was nice but much heavier and battery life was no where near as good (for obvious reasons).

The nook Touch looks really nice, is super thin and has amazing battery life. Not to mention a better price. Also naturally is better for viewing in sunlight due to the e-ink.

At this point I'm really thinking about getting a nook touch, I need to get more reviews/first hand impressions of it though.

Edit: Just saw you want one that acts as a PC, pretty much rules out Touch.
