I like this one, Target used to have them for $40 (I got mine 75% off, woohoo).

I have that one but it has a black teflon coated blade like the smith and wesson knife. I love mine and have carried it for over 6 years.

Kershaw from Wal-Mart for a cheap, decent knife.

If it's something you won't lose and will carry around for a long time, get an old Case from the 60s or 70s, with real stag.

I love my spring assisted Kershaw.
Yeah, I have a spring-assisted Kershaw Leek and it rocks for sure!

Oh yeah, mine's black too... no idea if it's teflon coated. I love how smooth that knife is when I open it.

i carry a cheap one.. because if i do stab or throw it at someone i dont want it back so i dont want to waste a 20$ knife

$20 isnt that much for a knife, really. id probably never pay over 50 for one, and i doubt id ever even pay that. i use mine as tools and would cringe if i broke a knife with what i consider general usage. in fact i *have* broken a couple, or the tips on them, but since they cost 20 bucks or less and had otherwise given me plenty of service, i dont consider it a waste.

i have a switchblade now, though i rarely carry it. its a stiletto, and while stainless and sharp, its not serrated (which is something that comes in handy for me) so i only have it on me if im "out". id probably never, ever use it though, which is another reason i dont have it often.

i used to have a more utilitarian switchblade, good blade, i think the spring broke and when i tried replacing it i lost another very small part. meh. i could use a couple more like that, makes me wonder when the next knife show is gonna be in town.

$20 for a knife is nothing. I have several knives that are worth more than $300 each.

A good comparison would be watches. You guys and your <$20 are getting the equivalent of a truckstop LCD watch. Guys spending up to $40 or so are getting Timex level quality. $75 gets you a Seiko level, etc, on up to really expensive knives.

Here is a knife I bought for almost $300(retails for almost $400) and I carry it all the time, it's in my pocket now, in fact. Text It's worth so much because they are made by a guy who is a real craftsman and has a waiting list for his work. He will refurbish it to like new for $20 too so it's always only $20 away from being a new knife. This plus the incredible popularity give it a resale value of at least $250 which is also a nice feeling... if I am ever in a cash pinch I can sell it quick and get my money back out of it. It's just a perfect design too so I don't even want to sell it... the only problem is that my gf wants it too. 😛

theres a difference guys.. i dont have a nice knife cause i dont use it for handy things 😛
i use them 3$ knives which is good enough to peirce someone

i should get a nice knife to use for handy things though although i never find a need for it

I carry this.

more feedback? I am thinking about ordering one

What do you wanna know?

how well does it handle and how long should I expect it to last?

Handles just fine. What do you plan on doing with it?

I've had mine for almost a year now and it's pretty much just like new.

Not bad as a cheapy, but Smith and Wesson knives (and most other gun manufacturer knives) are made in China, re-badged junk. The steel is crap and will not keep an edge.

Oh well, though it looks pretty cool for the price. Dont know about the cheaper ones but I carry a spyderco endura and its lasted me almost ten years :Q

I don't have a special purpose for that, just everyday carry.

In that case it would certainly do the job.

i carry the leatherman wave. ($68 @ walmart)

the blades are on the outside.

plus there's the tools inside when you unfold it.

Yeah, I have one of those too. My gf gave it to me for my birthday a couple years ago and had it engraved. 😛 Text

I use it all the time.

For an EDC knife, I strongly recommend a Spyderco Calypso Jr. If you can afford it (and can find one), go with the ZDP-189 version. It really doesn't get better than this for the price. The VG10 model is in the low $40 range. The ZDP-189 version is in the $60 range.

But if you want to use your knife as a screwdriver, chisel, or shovel, pick one of the above recommended knifes.
