Good cheap knife?

I like this one, Target used to have them for $40 (I got mine 75% off, woohoo).

me and my brother both have one of those
i like it

but i personally prefer a larger knife, nothing huge, mind you, but i normally carry a butterfly knife with me. still cheap, stainless steel, hefty, sharp, and useful for bashing, prying, cutting and slicing, its half-serrated.

I love all Gerber knives...I always have one on me from my small collection. However, i think 2.5" is the largest legal size to carry in most states. That 3.0 might be too big.

I have the teflon coated CRKT whose blade folds flat against the handle. I replaced the belt clip with a washer to make it thinner.

The best part is the tanto blade shape. It looks hella sweet!

I would say a good cheap folding knife would be a Cold Steel brand Ti-Lite knife with the zytel handle. I have one of these with the titanium handle and it's a lot more expensive but the zytel model is a better bang for the buck. Here is a link to a "buy it now" deal on ebay for $38 which is pretty decent. link

Here's a pic of mine. My gf gave it to me. 🙂 Text

$20 isnt that much for a knife, really. id probably never pay over 50 for one, and i doubt id ever even pay that. i use mine as tools and would cringe if i broke a knife with what i consider general usage. in fact i *have* broken a couple, or the tips on them, but since they cost 20 bucks or less and had otherwise given me plenty of service, i dont consider it a waste.

i have a switchblade now, though i rarely carry it. its a stiletto, and while stainless and sharp, its not serrated (which is something that comes in handy for me) so i only have it on me if im "out". id probably never, ever use it though, which is another reason i dont have it often.

i used to have a more utilitarian switchblade, good blade, i think the spring broke and when i tried replacing it i lost another very small part. meh. i could use a couple more like that, makes me wonder when the next knife show is gonna be in town.

$20 for a knife is nothing. I have several knives that are worth more than $300 each.

A good comparison would be watches. You guys and your <$20 are getting the equivalent of a truckstop LCD watch. Guys spending up to $40 or so are getting Timex level quality. $75 gets you a Seiko level, etc, on up to really expensive knives.

Here is a knife I bought for almost $300(retails for almost $400) and I carry it all the time, it's in my pocket now, in fact. Text It's worth so much because they are made by a guy who is a real craftsman and has a waiting list for his work. He will refurbish it to like new for $20 too so it's always only $20 away from being a new knife. This plus the incredible popularity give it a resale value of at least $250 which is also a nice feeling... if I am ever in a cash pinch I can sell it quick and get my money back out of it. It's just a perfect design too so I don't even want to sell it... the only problem is that my gf wants it too. 😛

Kershaw from Wal-Mart for a cheap, decent knife.

If it's something you won't lose and will carry around for a long time, get an old Case from the 60s or 70s, with real stag.

I love my spring assisted Kershaw.

I have this one and I love it. I use it all the time and keep it on my keyring. I think I got it for like $16 at Home Depot. Gerber makes good stuff and it don't cost all that much neither. 😎
