I just want to create a small website finally for my photography collection. I don't imagine it being too big.

The traffic will be light as it'll just be viewed by my friends and FB. And maybe bit more if I do convert it as my photog biz site. But I imagine relatively light all along.

I know nothing about web hosting. What's a good cheap package for both domain name + host?

Who are the big companies and who are small?

Downtownhost, Hawk Host, Hostgator, and I'm sure Vivi's service is good too. He seems to know his stuff.

I run with Hawk Host.

How's Hawk Host? They seem to be pretty cheap.

I've been very pleased with them. I've been with them for two years now and I've had very little downtime and their servers are well equipped beasts.

Make sure you check WHT for coupons... and if you go with them feel free to PM me for a referral link

I've been with IX Webhosting for about 4 years:

http://www.ixwebhosting.com/

I can only remember one major outage in that time (happened recently, a few months ago iirc). No complaints here.

Google sites. Domain names are $10 a year and include private registration which costs extra elsewhere.

edit: plus creation of email addresses @yourdomain.com are setup automatically through google apps, which is nice.
