What is the cheapest (but still decent) controller for the PC (for racing, platforms, and sports games)?

I think most people reccomend the Xbox 360 controller for the PC. Wired or wireless, your choce.

www.amazon.com

This. I got mine from Best Buy, but you can get them from anywhere. Some people recommend the MadCatz version, but after reading through some reviews, it appears that there may be some longevity issues with it. It is cheaper though, so get what the wallet will bear!

Stupid question: is there an adapter for the wireless controllers to connect to a PC? Are they bluetooth or something?

Yes, but they've been hard to come by. They come included in the Wireless 360 controller for windows package, but they're not sold separately anymore. Your best bet is to check out ebay.

It's also been reported quite a bit that the wireless is rather buggy on the PC. Best to stick with the wired version.

Never had a problem with my wireless controller and receiver... and I bought my receiver when they were first released.

Of course, ymmv, but I have nothing but good things to say about the wireless controller on the pc.

The only think I wish microsoft would do is allow for the chatpad to be used on the pc

I thought the xbox 360 controller was a good buy at the $40 i bought it for, for $25, there are lower options, but the quality of the 360 controller is worth the price..

360 controller all the way. I used a PS2 controller with a converter but the most games have 360 controller support built in so it maps it perfectly.

Wired 360 controller is the best as far as I'm concerned...games just work with it, no configuring required - controller cues generally include images for 360 buttons too. You really can't go wrong.
