good, cheap car insurance

so I'm searching a car insurance with some good cheap rates. This will be for me, and my wife, 23 and 24 years old. we are probably just needing basic liability, and if cost is ok, will consider colission coverage.

I'm going to go through the major companies and get quotes, but want to see if all the smaller companies have good price.

what do you guys use? any recommendations and tips?

p.s, also, is it true that if the insurance is under my wife's name, girls get a better rate? I'm located in oklahoma

thanks

Geico....I've heard good things about Amex too...but Geico was cheaper for me.

When you turn 25, you'll get real breaks. Also, buy a family sedan like a buick (that's what I did). It saved me $80 a month from my Jeep Cherokee....go figure. SUVs cost a fortune to insure because too many amercans can't drive them.

here are a few things that will benefit:

married
over 25
kids (i think, as long as not teenager eligible to drive yet)
those stupid def. driving courses
clean history (duh)

i think you're good to go for being married, and put your wife in as well, as long as her record is clean

i use allstate

edit: geico may not be as nice as you think, yeah they lure you in with a great rate, my dad's insurance is up and is being "adjusted" for a 30% increase. he did not have any accidents and the only red light ticket he had, he was able to beat.

You forget credit score

There is no such thing as "good cheap insurance". If you buy cheap insurance all your doing is complying with the law or other lender requirements.

If you want to actually be able to collect on a claim, you need to go to one of the more expensive companies.

statefarm FTW

I will never use them again.

They raised my rates once (no...it wasn't due to a claim or anything or ticket)...I called their ass and they said "Oh, we are raising our rates in California."

I was like...well ****** but I guess it's happening to everyone.

The next day on the radio I heard a StateFarm commercial and it said "WE ARE LOWERING OUR RATES IN CALIFORNIA!" So I said ****** you and canceled them.

QFT.

Also note that Comprehensive and Uninsured/Underinsured are about a billion times more useful than Collision. Collision is for people who can't drive, for the most part.

I would recommend against liberty mutual. Their claims dept is good at paying out but not at collecting on your behalf.

I'm 29, awesome credit, single, one accident ($3000 claim), and they're charging me $2200 a year for a 2002 Ford Focus. I'm looking into other providers.

love getting a discount for have homeowners and auto policy with the same agent (Nationwide)...they seem to always have the best rates for us whenever we get quotes...

Yeah, that's my feeling as well. FWIW, I've had State Farm ever since I started driving and they've been really good.

I have Allstate too... a 19yr old, with only one year of driving experience, they offered ~$275 for 6 months including uninsured motorist, which is so much cheaper than anything else I found (Esurance which I had before was $600, other quotes were $800-$900).

we are probably just needing basic liability,

You need much more than basic liability (usually around 15/30/5). If you end up liable for $300,000 in medical charges for an accident, you're screwed.

You should check out prices for a 100/300 policy. Pair it with a $2m umbrella policy (these are dirt cheap).

Once again, against liberty mutual. My accident, which wasn't my fault, was settled by them without even getting the police report or doing any research. So now I have to write them a letter complaining formally to get something done. Definitely stay away from their lazy company.

Esurance is the cheapest I've found, I haven't had to call customer support.

I cannot believe people actually buy esurance. You pay 90% of the price of a B&M insurance agency and walk away with 0% of the help/customer contact. You are basically just paying for the proof of insurance.
