Good Cheap Bicycles

Find a bike you like first that is within your budget, even a hundred or hundred and fifty more. Then call around to local shops and find out if they have last years model or the year before that. I got a $350 hybrid for $179 that way. Same bike except it had 3 less gears which was no big deal and a different seat. The guy swapped out the seat for the new one for free to close the sale.

Went to a bike shop today and feel in love with this. The bike shop is selling it for $700. I know I could probably find a better deal online but they're throwing in a year of free maintenance and free lessons on how to take care of the bike and ride correctly (I'm a complete nub, so that helps). What do you guys think? I plan to eventually do 17 miles total to and from work every weekday.

Whatever floats your boat.

Sounds to me like the salesman did his job though.

Well, My former chemistry teacher was there helping me out (he's into touring) and said it's a good deal. I think If I'll be using something often I better invest in it wisely.

Walmart suprisingly has a lot. I got a schwin roadster that is really comfortable recently in store, but it is online too i think

assembled by the 16yr old that just got promoted from the snack counter
not to mention the ones are box stores are not the same quality as a bike-store bike

Worst advice ever!!!

Do not buy a bike from walmart, they are complete crap. Especially if you plan on actually riding it regularly.

That's not a bad deal. It's not a great deal either though. I think you could find some good deals on bikes in the next month or two since the 2007 models will be coming out.

I'd check a few more places. Edit-Those places should be bike shops.

If you really want to look online try Bikesdirect.com but be aware that you might find a better fit if you stick with your LBS.

This is what I've been commuting on for the past 7 months.

I bought a motobecane off of ebay for about $280... really really nice bike, I've only put a few hundred miles on it and then I got a fricken flat :|

Oh well...

So? Change the fricken tube...everyone gets flats.

If not, I'll take that busted up bike off your hands for $50.
