Good Chat Program for a Workgroup Environment?

I've been trying to find a good program that I can use to chat between different machines on my network which is setup as a workgroup. The problem I'm having is that there are multiple user accounts on each machine. (same account names on each except for 1)

Basically what I looking for is: user 1 on machine 1 is logged in and user 2 on machine 2 is logged in, I want them to be able to chat as user 1 and user 2. Now when user 1 goes to machine 2 and user 2 goes to machine 1, I still what them to be able to chat as user 1 and user 2. Even though the machine the user is on changes, the chat name stays the same making it easier to know who you are sending the message to.

I tried using VCM, but it did not quite do what I wanted or at least I could not get it to do that. I also tried the net send command, but that would be too hard for people to work with (trying to stick to GUI and easy).

Thanks for the help

Sounds like something easily accomplished with NetMeeting, especially if you have static IPs...just create speeddials when logged into each user account with NM running. And besides chat, they could also do file transfer, app sharing, whiteboard, A/V, etc.

Setup a server with IRC and web, and then run a java irc client on a web page.

Hmmm, yes, of course. Dunno why I didn't think of this. It's so much simpler and less time consuming, with fewer potential configuration issues and less hardware involved.
