please recommend any such device (or any other good way to listen to music while traveling too fatr from my computer to hear without disturbing the neighbors ;))
either by experience or tech doc. price is an issue, but i want smth good.
mini-discs are not that great and mp3 players have way too expensive memory cards, and i use mp3s on cds for my musicc collection anyway...

I bought a Memorex CD/MP3 player from Target a few weeks ago for $90. It also came with a car adapter and some crappy headphones. I have it hooked up to my home theater system and it is pretty ok. I only have one complaint, it cant play VBR MP3 files, which is ok, since I think only 1 of my MP3s is a VBR one.

I thought it was pretty reasonable for the price.

yes, and exuse me, but not knowing that VBR is THE WAY to make highest possible quality/size mp3 is quite dumb...(j/k;)) anyway, if you think of it, VBR is the smartest way to incode smth.
i dont remember it, but one of the nice members here has a very informative link in his sig with a site which clearly shows the supremacy of both VBR encoding and the LAME codec.
but all this bulls$it is not the issue. i woul;d like to know if anyone can help me find a good portable device whih can play mp3s off cds, supports VBR and costs not too much? plz. TIA :)

the only other ones i have seen are by shonky brands that i have never heard of. one of my mates got a portable cd/vcd/mp3cd player in china somewhere and it doesn't even have antishock (very crappy!).
