I'm looking for a good video card to upgrade my old radeon pci.
Here are a few features that I need on this new card.

1. Very cool running. No need for extra cooling in a semi-hot pc.
2. $150 or less
3. dx9 compliance
4. VIVO functionality

I have no preference for either ati or nvidia so any company will do. If anyone can help me out I will appreciate it greatly I've looked around and found that a fx 5200ultra vivo and a fx 5600vivo come close but I don't know about cooling. ATI doesn't seem to make vivo's at this price range Is there a big difference between 5600 and 5600ultra or no?
LOL too many question sorry. Thanks in advance.

for <150 any dx9 card wont matter if it runs dx9 or not, it wont be powerfull enough when the time comes to need dx9. my opinion is to grab a ti4200 or find a cheapo 9500nonpro. the 4200 i think is faster than the watered down 9500nonpro, but im just an nvidiot so what do i know. ::shrugs::

I've seen a few used ATi 9500P's for $150 in the For Sale/Trade forum, so keep your eyes open. Alternatively, try to find a $150 9500P (ask them to check it at the register) at Best Buy.

Just to throw in another option, the FX 5600 (non ultra) should fit in that catagory.
But in my actual opininon the 9500 is the best choice.

The Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro is within $10 of your $150 limit. If you wait a few more weeks for the 5600 Ultras to soak in then the prices of the 9600 Pros will fall a bit more. And that is the ultimate card for your situation IMHO.

the ole, my limit is X, well for 5 bucks more you can get this. well for 15 bucks more you can get that. then for 20 more you can get this. just go ahead and get the 9700 np for 200. that is what it is all leading too

My point was that he could wait a short time and the card will fall to be about $150.

you guys did know he said vivo support right...? well the only thing there in that category is a 5600, and depends on your type of gaming should fit your needs. i believe saphire and gigacube both has made a vivo version of the 9600pro, but none has yet to be seen in the U.S.

ROFL.

THe Sapphire 9600pro can be had for $149 (no VIVO) .

Gigacube has as 9600pro with VIVO but it's probably a little more than $150.

And then at that time he could wait a while and a better card would fall to $150, repeat 100000 times.

at newegg.com I'm not seeing any DX 9.0 VIVO cards under 150$. In that case I would buy the radeon 9200 vivo or a 9100 AIW.

LOL thanks for all the info. Seems there isn't much I can do right now because either the prices are too high or cards just aren't available in the US. I think I found a vivo one somewhere for the fx 5600. Can anyone answer my last question about whether the difference between a 5600 and its ultra counterpart is noticeable? Must drag thread.....

Ok I narrowed it down to the

Leadtek NV34 Geforce FX5600 8XAGP 128MB VGA, DVI & TV-Out/VIVO - RETAIL

or

Prolink Geforce FX 5600 128MB, 8X AGP, VIVO+DVI+VGA+TV Model VIO-5600-128AD - RETAIL

So which one?
Seems there's no 9600's with vivo out there. Ah life sux when you don't have cash $$$ :)

I know there aew a lot of Leadtek fans out there, and it is rated highly if you're looking at VIVO cards. As much as I hate to say it, EBay might be a good place to look for a cut rate card.

either of those would be fine, the difference between the ultra and nonultra is just clock speed i believe, oh and about $100 difference in price too. it new 5600ultra should be good if it were cheaper. if you go with the goldlen limited version of the pronlink card, which is a tad more expensive, it's memory is clocked 100mhz higher than normal.

5600 non ultra is pertty slow and it is not dx9 compliant either. i would highly recomend a nice geforce4ti or radeon in that pricerange.

Snowman,

What DX9 capabilities does the 5600 lack? I'm pretty sure it is DX9 compliant.

he says he wants vivo . 5600 is probably your best bet, but i doubt you can get one with vivo for under 150. might be 170 ish.

if i were you i'd just get a regular card and a $30 tv tuner / video in board.

I'm not to hot on having an extra card cuz it will take up resources and there's much less hassle. I hate opening my pc :) Prolink ultimate gold looks sweet and is clocked at 600mhz 3.3ns ram so I'll prolly get that once the price drops or if I'm really desperate I'll go for the prolink 5600 128mb which is $145. Thanks for all the help guyz/galz :)
