So my parents are thinking about getting me a car since I actually found a job. I'm looking for a decent car for $18k or less. any suggestions? The only things I'm looking for are manual, and good gas mileage.

Are you looking for a used or a new car???
If used, you might settle with 99-01 Integra.
If new, I would say sentra or mazda portege.

My god NO!!! worst car ever.

you can pic up a fully, or at least pretty well loaded spec v or sentra se-r for under 18k. manual transmission, great fuel economy, and really great overall sporty cars.

These would be my suggestions:

- VW GTi 1.8t
- Mazda MP5
- Sentra SE-R
- Focus SVT

Protege 5 would be nice. Plus the wagon would prolly give you lower insurance as well. Course, I can't come into a car thread and not recommend a Honda. That Accord for 15.7 is a good deal, but it has the non-Vtec 2.3, only 135 horsies. I would try for the LX with a 5 speed, assuming you don't mind a stick. For 16.5, also a CarsDirect price, you get all the power goodies inside and the 150 horse Vtec 2.3. Wow, 16.5, a dealer told me 20k last week, idiot.

hehe yeah 24k is a tad too steep. hmm, the accord does sound nice. So carsdirect is a pretty good and secure place to buy cars from? I'll check it out

Honda Accord LX. Honda Civic EX. Those two, particularly the Accord (Civic EX is a bit too much for "just" a Civic, IMHO) would be at the top of my list if my new car budget was $18k.
