Ok I am a little bit of an audiophile. It bugs me when the music im listening to sounds bad. I want to know if anyone knows of some good speakers/speaker system to put in my car. I have a 94 Olds 98 just so you know my situation.

TIM!!!

Whatever you do, don't get one of those stupid subwoofers in your trunk. They are freakin stupid, and sound terrible.

just get a nice head unit with decent power, 50W X 4 would be nice, and high voltage output. and replace all stock speakers. anything is better than stock, unless your car comes with mark levinson system like lexus.

as villageideot111 said, "Whatever you do, don't get one of those stupid subwoofers in your trunk. I have one 10in sub and nice head unit with cheaper side 6.5 speakers and they sound nice.

Im no sound wiz but just adding my input.

I'd suggest picking up a set of Infinity components for the front. I have a set and they sound great.

component speakers. get decent front components and just fill the rear with left over budget or else your stereo image will suffer and no matter how much you spend it will sound bad.

In my 94 bonneville I use a Alpine head unit 4x60W (i dont know model), Infinity front 5.25", Boston 6"x9" rears, Alpine M550 amp connected to a single 1221R series sub. Total price for full system, retail $2500-$3000 paid $1500.

Edit: systems perform better when everything is made by the same company.

Infinity is great for the high crisp sounds that are so important, but music has no depth without the low and mid range. Alpine 1221R subs are the best Ive heard in awhile ($100-$150 on ebay or $220 at retail).

Whatever you do, don't get one of those stupid subwoofers in your trunk. They are freakin stupid, and sound terrible
WTF is wrong with a sub? If your system only pushes out the high and mid range sounds, what will put out the low end? My system sounds great, you can turn the sub down if I like and it has never failed me (well when the installer didnt put the proper weather stripping in the trunk, the wires got wet and fvck up the rear speakers but were replaced).

laugh at will, but I bought 2 10" subs at wal-mart for 30/peice, and provided you dont crank it, they sound good.. (450w jensen).. combined with the 600w amp I bought at london drugs (I cant afford to put a really nice system in because it's a convertable and it's an offroad truck where I need to pull the system out to make room for tools, spare tires, parts etc). but after buying a kenwood mp3 deck for 200cdn, and the subs for 30 a peice, and 60 for 2 6x9's.. you can really get a good deal if you try small businesses. avoid pawn shops unless you want something which'll break.

Pritty much like everything else in the world, you get what you pay for, if you get sh!t at walmart, its going to be walmart quality sh!t. If you go to ultimate electronic or someone who specializes in high end equipment, the sound quality is going to be worlds appart. Just like a car, a honda civic aint no ferrari F430

The Infinity Kappa series are nice. Myself, I'm a Rockford Fostgate person and its pretty much the only thing I use. If you like your head unit, then just make sure you get a little amplifier to bring the speakers up to full potential.

Myself, I have an 04 Focus with a blaupunkt headunit that has MP3 capability and don't plan on getting rid of it, but I'll be getting my Rockfords installed in a couple of weeks.

This really depends on your budget. I would look at speakers like Focal, MB Quart, and Boston Acoustics. If you want some cheaper (but still good) speakers, I would look at Infinity. I splurged on my sound system so I went with a pair of Boston Acoustics Z6 for my front speakers. The Z6s cost $1000 a pair so again, it really depends on your budget.

Get a decent deck 1 pair of good components and a small (but good) 4 channell amp. Should be all you need. Depending on your budget of course. This is the system I'm in the process of putting in my STi if you're interested. I also got everything from eBay since it's WAY cheaper there.

Alpine 9855 Headunit - $350 shipped
Alpine Type-X 6.5" components - $200 shipped
Alpine MRV-F345 4Ch amp - $260 shipped (will power front components and a small sub, deck will power rear stock speakers for filler)

I have a little over $1000 invested but it will sound signicantly better than stock.
