Good Canadian law enforcement careers?

Just wondering if there are actually good careers in the Canadian law enforcement field out there? The Canadian equivalent of the CIA is CSIS, which is a joke to put it mildly, and I don't think we even have an equivalent of the FBI out here.

i'm not sure there are very many threats to canadian national sovreignty. i wouldnt expect to go chasing super-criminals or anything. how about a nice 30 years in the highway patrol busting stoners? 😉

The equiv of the FBI, from a federal law enforcement standpoint in Canada is the RCMP.

The RCMP just also happen to perform various other roles that are seperated in the US, ie: municipal law enforcement, state/provincial highway patrol etc...

The equiv of the CIA in Canada is not CSIS however, the CIA is an external intelligence agency, similar to britians MI6... they are not allowed (well arnt suppose to) use their powers to spy on local citizens in their home countries. That is what the FBI and MI5/Scottland Yard are for.

CSIS is used for internal intelligence. We dont have foreign spies running around in other countries. Simply put, we dont have the budget for it.

One other agency you forgot to mention is the Canadian version of the NSA, which is the CSE (Communications Security Establishment) they do all the kewl techno communications intelligence stuff, like monitoring, advanced phone/sattelite taps, listening in on diplomatic conversations/embessies etc They were hiring computer security people last summer.

CSIS seems to be more interested in spying on union groups that cold cost crown corporations alot of money (ie the whole Canada Post debacle)

If you are looking for a law enforcement career, then ur best bet is the RCMP as you have alot of career paths with which you can follow.
