I'm looking for a good DSL modem for around $100-200.

The brand names that I keep seeing are:

D-Link
Efficient
Best Data
and Alcatel

I would really appeciate any comment about your experience with any of these manufacturers. I tried to find a good 3Com / USR or Intel modem but without any luck. Thanks in advance for any input.

DSL Modems are so similar it doesnt really matter which to get. I have a Westell from Verizon and it works
perfectly. Im actually getting better then the speedI signed up with (1.5/384 Actual 1.65-1.78/392)
Im not postive but I thing you have you use a modem which is supported by your DSL provider.
Might wanna check before buying a modem.

People have told me that the efficient brand was pretty good. That's all I know. I personally use a fujitsu on my framerelay dsl connection. I'm guessing you're using ATM.

The important thing is making sure it's compatible with your DSL service. For example, my Efficient Networks' Speedstream 5250 sDSL modem will not work an an aDSL connection. Also, the max speed my unit supports is 1.1Mbps. Other than that, I don't believe there really is much difference. I've had the opportunity to also use the Efficient 5260 (aDSL), the Alcatel Speedtouch (also aDSL), and also a Flowpoint router (sorry, it's been a while and I don't remember the model #), and they were all very reliable.

Do you already have a DSL service? If not, then just sign up for Earthlink and they will give you a FREE DSL modem. You just have to commit for a year and the early cancellation fee is $150 (the price of the modem).
I have Earthlihnk DSL and it works great.
