I know awhile back someone posted a message about good C++ books. Does anyone know of any good "teach yourself C" (or similar) books?

I posted a thread awhile ago about how the CSE dept. at my university changed the curriculum and now all CS/CPEG majors are required to take 2 semesters of a language called scheme. Based on the replies I got, it sounded like Scheme was pretty much worthless in industry, so I thought it might be a good idea to try and learn a language that might actually prove useful someday. We did some basic C programs in my intro to eg. classes last year, so I thought C would be a good one to learn. Would I be better off with another language? (C++?)
