Hi there, I currently have a M2NPV-VM board.

It is not compatible with a PhenomII. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819103649

I'm looking to upgrade from a AMD X2 6000+ since it has been running very hot lately.

I'm not super interested in unlocking the 4th core but I would like to be OC it by just raising the multiplier (something that I read is very easy with this chip).

So I'm looking for a board that is Phenom II compatible. Will take my 4x1Gb of DDR2 800 Ram, Has 1 PCIX 16 slot. And will be able to Multiplier OC.

What are my options for a new board I can use the rest of my system with, the cheaper the better obviously?

Thanks so much for the help.

Current System
AMD 6000+ AM2 (125 W)
Thermaltake VENUS 12
Radeon HD 4870 1GB
4 GB DDR2 800
550W PSU

The reason for the upgrade/change is because my 6000+ has been thermally throttling itself when it hits about 63C (according to core temp) and making games unplayable during hectic times. To give you an example in WoW I can be at 70FPS before a boss pull and once combat starts I'll drop down below 5FPS for the whole fight.

Side question, will my current heatsink be adequate or should I change that as well?

I know my current heat issues aren't caused by improper HS seating. I've done the whole clean, new paste, reset thing 3 times and temps stayed the same. It's just the room ambient temps being at probably 80-85F.

Anyway sorry for the wall of text but let me know what you think my options are and thanks again.

4 GB of DDR 3 is more like 70-80 not 60.

But anyway. Doing it this way I recover maybe $100 from old parts after shipping assuming the person on Ebay does not hassle me.

It will also cost around 300 to upgrade to a newwer board with RAM that is not really noticeably faster at all.

I'd really like to go the DDR2 route if I can.

Sell your x2 6000+, mobo and RAMs ...

720BE / Asus 790gx AM3: $190

4 to 6Gb of DDR3 1333 or 1600 will cost yah $60 - $110

Sorry, the combo deal is no longer available.

""Those Basstuds!""

The Egg seems to rotate that combo price point around between different Phenom IIs and different motherboards. It also seems like just in the last few days or so the combo deals have shifted to more mobo/gpu combos. By Tuesday of so they should roll out a new batch.

I still think AM3 is the way to go to protect your purchase --- hard to say how long the 'backward compatibility" will remain with the new AM3s ---> AM2+ (to the next stepping, maybe?). With an AM3 motherboard I would hope that new procs for the next few years would be compatible with a BIOS update.

The price of DDr3 has jumped in the last few weeks so if there is interest now might be the time to get in --- I've seen some forecasts that the price may continue to rise (up to 50%) through the end of the year.

I didn't think that AMD chips thermal throttled. They just shut off when they get too hot.
Your problem with WoW is simply an underpowered CPU.
