any have any suggestions for a board that's good if you're not planning on overclocking? I currently have an epox 8k7a, and am thinking of upgrading the mobo sometime in the near future. I have a 1.2 ghz Athlon that i'm not going to switch for a a while...

I was thinking either the epox 8kha, the abit kr7a-raid, or maybe the soyo dragon+... those are all good overclockers but is there something else I can use if i don't plan on overclocking?

most of the good boards "also" have good overclocking features...

the boards you listed are all good, but none of them are much faster then your 8k7a, it wouldnt be much of an upgrade.

if you do decide to get a new board i like the soyo dragon+ (raid, high quality sound, onboard LAN, smartcard reader with brings 2 extra usb ports up front)

thanks! i'll look into the board.... i just primiarly want support of the new XP chipsets and a higher ram count.... If i remember correctly, doesn't 8k7a only support up to 512 mgs of DDR ram? and 1.4 ghz athlon?

actually the 8k7a supports all the new athlonxp cpu's, as for ram i know it supports at least 1gb (thats 2 512mb dimms) it may even support 2gb (im not sure about that though)

8KHAL is a non-ocing version of 8KHA+ and it's at about $80 (8KHA+ is $100) so you make the call. I would consider though "overclocking" boards 'cause they often have goodies as well (8KHAL/8KHA+ don't really)
