Good bedroom audio solution?

Our bedroom tv has terrible audio so I've tried a few different solutions:
1. Cheapie soundbar - tv sounds ok but music (from itunes, served via plex) sounds awful
2. 2.1 computer speakers - my wife hates room shaking bass + no remote
3. I have a spare 5.1 system but she won't let me put a receiver in our small bedroom (she's absolutely right).

I was thinking a micro system of sorts but those are hardly made anymore. My tv's pretty basic and I've been using the headphones out jack - I'd like to keep this all as simple and music minded as possible.

I think a bose wave radio would actually work perfect but we all hate bose, any alternatives? Think big sound in a small package without a subwoofer.

Thanks!

I picked up a Vizio VSB200 soundbar refurbished for $60 and found a cheap sub for $25. Sounds infinitely better than out of the tv.

Is the ceiling finished below your bedroom?

If not, wall mount the TV, get in wall speakers, drill from below and drop all wires into basement. Either put the receiver down there or drill into a closet wall cavity and bring the wires to the shelf above the rod and use an IR repeater so you can close the door.

The cheapo monoprice in-walls actually get good reviews.

i bought that vizio soundbar for my mama a year ago. she LOVES it. music especially. it has pretty good bass as it is too, i doubt op's wife would want a sub to go with it.

KRK is good, but the Rokit6's from them are the best. If you can find a good price on them(some local music stores will put them on for 300 a set) then they are much better than the 5's or the 8's.
