Good basic laptop for the wife?

It's certainly a basic laptop as the C-50 processor is typically used on netbooks.

For what you're mentioning it's an adequate choice, but you're certainly not getting a deal for your money.

EDIT: If you can pay a bit more, this would be a better option - in that it would lag/stutter less in running internet apps/programs, HD videos, etc. now as more and more online content becomes feature-rich.

Check out #5 and #6. I would get #6 (same price range, more memory, cpu, looks sexier):

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5216 Intel Pentium 2GHz 15.6" Widescreen Notebook
Store: Best Buy
Price: $349.99 with $14.99 s&h (in-store pickup only)
Lowest By: $123
Is It Worth It?: Sure, it's a budget laptop, but thanks to its Sandy Bridge-based Pentium B940 (which is a less expensive brother to Intel's Core series CPUs) and 4GB of RAM, this system can deliver competent processing power for everyday tasks. And at $350, it's the least expensive Sandy Bridge-based laptop we've ever seen with 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.

The laptop I listed is available @ 20% off, so it'd come to $272, plus I'll get an additional $40 off if I pay with their Amazon rewards card, so it'd come to $232.

We use my laptop (Asus G73JH) for watching movies and all that. She really uses it for documents, Facebook, emails, etc...

I couldn't find any at the price you were mentioning without it being around a 10" screen, JWade.

For reference, here is her current laptop:

Trying to get one on a budget that would suffice her needs for a good few years 🙂

Well the C-50 likely won't be much faster than a Pentium-M, if at all... better in video performance and a bigger HDD and what not, but worth the money? Probably not.... Spend another $100 and get something that is truly an upgrade, with a more modern processor that is not made for netbooks 🙂

Think I might go for that laptop...for $230, it seems like such a good deal, unless someone can find me one that's better in the same price range.

Make certain you register for the warranty on that Asus within 90 days or you will not get the accidental damage coverage. Asus is decenr machine, but a little flimsy.

OK, so that laptop wasn't on their 20% deal - bah. I'll need to find something else.

I saw that someone mentioned that Toshiba laptop - what are everyone's thoughts on Toshiba?

I tested a C-50 for a week, not bad, but a 12-14 Incher with the new E-450 is only little more, and far better. 🙂
