I haven't read the entire article but page 2 touches on some important information that often has conflicting views on the internet. Some boards have two types of holes in the motherboard, with and without a metal contact. READ the article and get it right.
I thought this might be useful to some people because my current motherboard (GA-EP45-UD3LR) has one of those non-metallic holes. Unfortunately it also came without any screws/washers so I'm just going to take out the standoff at that point and not use a screw at all. The other holes all have metal contacts and are meant to be screwed directly without any kind of washer. No reason to mess up your motherboard by not doing this correctly.
