I've been living in LA since last September, but I still could use some good club/bar recommendations ...
So what are some really good (medium priced) clubs and bars?
(High drink prices are okay with me but I don't like $15 cover ... the best cover is NO cover!)

I really like the Standard in Downtown, and I'm a big fan of the Barfly, and the Voda Bar in Santa Monica.

I go out about once a week but I can simply not afford to blow 20 bucks just on cover ....
I appreciate how some clubs have cover-free nights: the Standard is free on Sundays for example, and the Barfly on Fridays (<= not sure about this one since I haven't been there for some time. Anyone confirm?).

My main concern is "no cover".
My GF doesn't drink that much and if i want to get plastered on really expensive alcohol it's my own fault. Otherwise i can just limit myself.

If I ever get out to LA, I want to go to the Viper Room. Also I want to go down to the"Roxy"? The place where GNR got their start. I think thats the name of it.

The Viper Room is pretty cool. A lot smaller than you'd expect, but you can see where River Phoenix died.

I've never been inside the Roxy, but the Rainbow next door is a cool place to hang out and the Key Club down the road is pretty cool.

Then there's also the Whiskey where The Doors and several other greats played back in the day.

If you can get in, Joseph's is cool.

Also, Barney's Beanery is always really live...but it's mostly beer, beer, and beer that you'll be drinking there...lots of celeb's hang out at Barney's on a regular basis.

There are alway's plenty of celeb's at Joseph's.

IMO, don't waste your time on most places on sunset...they are too expensive and are full of poseurs (sp?).

did someone say miyagi's? i loved that place when i went to schoool...i swear, on fridays and saturdays, it's gets so unbelievably packed. If there was a stampede, i swear, it would so be over cuz they have one narrow stairway from the 3rd floor to the main exit.
