Good backpacks??

I need a new backpack for school. I really want one of those Jansport with that spongey/squshy material in the shoulder straps for lots of cushioning which is obviously a Must. The problem is that there are soooo many different models, how does one choose? is there an accepted "favorite" or something?

and where is the best place to buy them online? retail stores are way too expensive.

thanks

hmmm...I went to the Nautica Factory store and purchased a pretty nice Nautica Hiking Backpak. Its fully waterproof, has extreme padding, pockets/pouches galore and even a nifty easy access cell phone holder built in. I ended up paying 32 bucks for it.

i went through the same search half a year ago and found a really comfortable one. doesn't have the spongy material, but i don't think that material makes a big difference compared to other things they can do with the pack.

i got the rei talus 30 (before the price was reduced 🙁). i wish i had got this bag earlier because carrying a ton a books every day was not fun with a lesser pack. personally, i'm never getting another bookbag that doesn't have an aluminum stay

I've had great experiences with both Timberland and The North Face backpacks. My Timberland one lasted 3 years before the bottom ripped (lifetime warranty...I probably could have sent it back), and my North Face pack has been going strong through high school and college for me. No signs of wear yet, and the lifetime warranty is also good. My model is the Recon.

Camalbaks are awesome. Problem is that they cost an arm and a leg.

well and also aren't they hydration packs? kind of overkill for school 😛

If you had one of those backpacks with hydration unit...would you really fill it with water? I mean come on... we're talking about college here 🙂

I actually think that would be great. I see people all the time carrying around water bottles. It would be nice to not have to do that. Just take a sip from your backpack.

Plus, if you ever went backpacking somewhere, it is an added bonus 🙂

samsonites are really comfortable and great for hauling around a laptop. not the flashiest looking things tho...
