Good backlit keyboards?

Did a search in this forum for "backlit" and "illuminated" but didn't find much. Any good suggestions for backlit keyboards? I find that I like to play games in low light conditions but really have trouble seeing the keyboard.

The Logitech G15 looks like it might be overkill for me and isn't especially cheap. Any other options out there that you might recommend?

Saitek Eclipse II. I use it and its great for nighttime/dark use. There are three colors to choose from and you can control the brightness of the backlighting.

Or the original Eclipse if you can find it for cheaper.

Saitek II is a nice keyboard. I got one last month and have thoroughly enjoyed being able to type in very low light conditions. (Not being a touch typist! 🙂 )

I keep mine on red - that is the best color for not interfering with one's night vision. It is illuminated by LEDs - Blue, Red, and both on for purple.

Very true but the II version has improvements that make it more desirable IMO. The keys are a little bit more firmer when pushed and the keyboard itself doesnt slide on your desk as easily as the original did which is great if you are the type that really slams down on the keys during a hot fragfest. The II feet are just better in this respect. Also you get an extra color which I now prefer over the original red or blue and you can control the backlight brightness. The original version would be cheaper though and still be more than adequate for many folks. The Eclipse II isnt exactly 'cheap' in my book but well worth the money.

I have never had any keyboard slide on the desk/tray. That's an easy fix - two Velcro strips hold it nicely in place. Common sense rules.🙂

And, yes - check the big, round dial in the upper right part of the Eclipse II - it is a rheostat that lets you control the lighting continuously varioable from off to full bright. Purple is the brightest since is uses both the red and blue LEDs.

Then there's the Razer Lycosa.

I have the original Eclipse and I find the lighting lacking. Unless it's fully dark (monitor excepted) it's just too low contrast to be very legible. I think the brightness could ideally be doubled. You can change the led backlight from off, to half intensity, to full intensity.

I like my Logitech G11.

Plain and quite simply the G15 Rev 1 without the fancy LCD. I love it, feels excellent to type with and i seem to be typing better with this than my older Logitech wireless job. Comes with two USB ports which are perfect for your wireless mouse receiver 😀

I currently use the standard keyboard Dell includes with all their ~$400 systems. Its about as basic as they come and i really really really like the simplistic key layout. (I play all my games with the arrow keys and use the kp key's to strafe and jump...). I would love to play games on my lappy, but I cant use the little keyboard for shit. (you think dell could fit a full keyboard on the 17" versions...)

Also, I need it to be a USB keyboard. Would this "Salitek Eclipse II" compare to the plain old Dell keyboards in key: layout and size?

On another note, is their a difference in ir and blue tooth? for desktop applications? Just looking for some tips. thanks!

Any other keyboard recommendations?

Sorry for the small hijack, but it wasn't worth making a new thread.
