im building my first rig from scratch (yay) so you can understand that I'm a bit of a newbie. I just ordered an ASUS A7V266-E and an AMD Athlon XP2000. For a fan I chose a Thermaltake A1124 Volcano 7 (i hope thats a good one). I'd like some recommendations on a case. I ordered an aluminum adonized case from electroseller.com however when it arrived there was a crack on the front and they have yet to answer my emails about getting it replaced or a refund. So.. I don't think I'll want to buy from them again. I'm willing to spend around $100 bucks for a case w/ a power supply, preferably 400w as I will be adding a couple more fans.

All input is greatly appreciated =)

hey dukegamma,

i ordered this case from newegg for $99 + tax and shipping. the case is the second one at this link. it has a 330w enermax powersupply. while it's not a 400w, it's super quiet, and i've got an athlon 1.4, 2 hard drives, dvd, cdrw, and 4 case fans running on it perfectly stable. i'd strongly recommend going with a name brand psu like enermax with lowewr wattage than a higher wattage no-name, as most fellow ATers here would.

hope this helps.

lordbob99 is correct... those cases are great... quality and build is just incredible... (i have a beige one)

but as for your so called cooler.... the volcrappo will work.... however... for such a "loud" hsf.... it doesn't cool like other ones that sound quieter and cost a tad more.... seriously though.... it will work... don't plan to overclock well and don't expect nice and cool temps... you'll get about average temps

i agree with punkrawket in that the volcano isn't the best hsf out there to get. if you have the money and your board can take it, the alpha 8045 is probably your best bet. if not, you may wanna get the svc gc68. i ordered one on friday, and am currently waiting for it to arrive. these both take 80 mm fans, so they'll can make nice quiet solutions. the best prices for these seem to be from case-mod.com and svcompucycle.com.

I've always been a fan of the Enlight mid towers. If you put a fan in back, you will have pretty good airflow. The quality is good and they are cheap. It took me a couple minutes to figure out how to open it when I first got it so long ago, but I grew fond of that feature.
