So I am in charge of creating schedules at my job. I created a schedule for the year and one of my employees retired so it won't work. If anyone can provide assistance I will paypal you $50! I need this pretty soon - like by this Monday.

Here is what I am working with:

We have 10 employees. I need a minimum of 6 people working every day. Some days could have more then 6 but 6 is the absolute minimum.

All shifts have to rotate days off - usually its rotates a day back
ie. Friday/Sat off then Thurs/Fri then Wed/Thur, etc

Work weeks start on Sunday and end on Saturday.
Days off have to be consecutive ie no split days off

Types of shift(s)

(2) 10 hour days with rotating days off
(6) Hybrid shifts - 1 week of 8 hour days, 1 week of 10 hour days
(2) 8 hour days with rotating days off

I have an excel spreadsheet of this "concept" but I cant seem to get a rotation where I can get a minimum of 6 per day....when the days off rotate I have something like 6,6,7,7,5,6

I can send it to anyone that can help.
Thanks!!

Employees (10): A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J
Days (7): Su, Mo, Tu, We, Th, Fr, Sa

Week1 (- = day off):
AAAAA--
BBBB--B
CCC--CC
DD--DDD
E--EEEE
--FFFFF
-GGGGG-
HHHHH--
IIII--I
JJJ--JJ

Week2 (every employee's days off shift 1 day earlier in week):
AAAA--A
BBB--BB
CC--CCC
D--DDDD
--EEEEE
-FFFFF-
GGGGG--
HHHH--H
III--II
JJ--JJJ

Week3:

AAA--AA
BB--BBB
C--CCCC
--DDDDD
-EEEEE-
FFFFF--
GGGG--G
HHH--HH
II--III
J--JJJJ

Repeat this pattern with each employee's days off moving 1 day earlier in the week each week. Everyday has at least 6 employees working and at most 8 employees working.

That works for people working straight 8s. I need 2 "lines" of 10 hour days with 3 days off and 6 "lines" of 2 weeks of 8s with 2 days off followed by 2 weeks of 10s with 3 days off with the days off rotating.

Your problem is 10 hour shifts are manpower intensive.

But I do want to try to help. Just to clarify

You need 2 people on permanent 10 hour shifts, 3 days off no rotation for them.

You need 6 people with two weeks of 8 hour shifts and two weeks of 10 hour shifts, correct? Not all the 8 hour shifts need to line up with the others, so long as there are two 10 hour work weeks and 2 8 hour work weeks in a month schedule?

Then you also need two more 10 hour shifters with rotating days off all month.

Is this accurate?

I assume you can't do a sat/sun split?

yes, you can do a sat/sun split. You can do that with a 10 hour schedule as well - Sat/Sun/Mon, Fri/Sat/Sun

The 2 people on permanent 10's WILL rotate. From what I have been able to come up with one line will start with W/Th/Fr off and rotate back (Tu/W/Th).

The other 10 will start with Su/M/Tu off and rotate back. The way both rotate it will only over lap one day per rotation.

You are correct with the 6 people. They dont have to line up with anyone just that their rotations will leave at least 6 people minimum per day

The last 2 will lines will be 2 people on 8 hour shifts that rotate back 1 day.

I can post the excel file so you can see what I came up with but like I said earlier I dont have the rotations set up correctly.

Requires me to request access

But doing some quick excel work, I'm not sure its possible. You basically will have 5 people on 10 hour days and 5 on 8's any given week. Even offsetting their days off completely and making sure no two are the same creates two days a week you are short (5). Shifting days off around you can get it down to one day a week with 5. I'll keep thinking/looking at it.

There is no possibility of changing everyones schedule around to better fit into a min of 6 working?

Change employees to colored balls and shifts to bag. Then go to a college math class and write it on the board. The students will think it's a class problem and you should soon have your answer.
