Good Air Conditioner for $250

Look in the paper there are people always trying to get rid of ac units. You could pick one up for $50 and it will last forever.

How hot does it get during the summer where you are? It seems to me that a good 8,000 btu ac unit should do what you need, unless you regularly see 100 degree days in the summer.

you can get a nice powerful 12000BTU for that price..

An 8000 BTU at fry's is about 99-149$..

You can get a bigger one, cause it will cool faster, and then you can go to an lower cooling mode..

We have a 10000BTU one in my brothers apt in LA.. that teh manager put in.. works amazingly well.. its an LG brand.

CostCo has a nice Panasonic 12,000BTU for $249 with timer mode and remote control.

They had the display unit on and it was C O L D. I would love to buy one but it's overkill for our 10x10 bedroom 🙂

I doubt it was running constantly. I've gone to Sears and they've plugged in and turned on a couple of ACs for me before, just to demonstrate them.

To the OP, I'd say you need at least 8000 BTU/h of cooling, more if you have any southern-facing windows, or if you're on an upper floor. You and your roomates can probably get an energy-rebate from the electric company for choosing an energy-star rated model. (I believe that units with an EER of 10.0 and greater qualify for the energy-star rating.)

It surrpirsed me also. The condensation was dripping onto the a/c's cardboard box which can't be good. Actually they had all FOUR a/c units running. It was nice to see them running but I don't think they should be sitting on a/c cardboard boxes (with no drip tray or anything behind the a/c unit).

Next week we're going to buy the Daewoo 5050BTU for $99 - $10 MIR for the whopping 2 months of "heat" Oregon gets 😛
