Good 939 motherboard?

Hi, I'm looking to get an Opty 165 and possibly overclock it to ~2.5 GHz or so...any recommendations on which motherboard might be the best for this task?

I don't do gaming at all, mostly scientific applications and such, so SLI/etc. is not required but I'd like PCI-X for video and such.

I was reading that the DFI Lanparty NF4 or something similar would be a good board with O/C capabilities, can you guys mention regarding this?

THANKS!

Hey,

If you don't want alot of bells and whistles, just good solid performance you coud go with an ASUS A8N5X. I love mine and have my opty144 overclocked to 2.4Mhz with no problems...Just a thought.

The DFI Lanparty series are some of the best o/cing boards today, so if you're planning on some fairly serious o/c, definately check 'em out. There's also the high end ASUS boards, and some epox boards are known to be some fairly good o/cers. IMO, for your needs, check out the DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D, Non-SLI (apparently can be modded to SLI, but not sure if that still works as well), a good Non-SLI, o/c friendly board.

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
More DFI Boards
ASUS A8N32-SLI
EPoX 9NPA+Ultra

That's about all i can recommend, others may be able to give you a better idea (i haven't used any of these boards).

I'd go with the DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D. Great overclocker, and in my experiences quite stable.

I would go for DFI. Personally I dont have one, but I know one thing for a fact you don't want the Asus A8N-Premium. Pickiest and Touchiest board I've ever used, not to mention the Vcore can't sit still at all.

If you're into "tweaking" your machines, then the DFI would be a good choice. Otherwise, something like the ASUS A8N-E or A8N-SLI is a solid choice. The ASUS A8N5X is a good board but doesn't support 3Gb/s SATA drives. That's one of the reasons why I recommend the other A8N-x series of boards, but it's up to you if that's important. The A8N-SLI or higher (Deluxe/Premium) would also give you onboard FireWire...
