Good 6150 AM2 and DDR2 motherboard?

I have an MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard right now with an AMD64 3000 and 1 GB of OCZ PC400 ram. I am upgrading my fathers K6 III 400 (finally) so I may just give him my platform and a spare 80 GB HDD and migrate myself over to a new platform with 1 GB of DDR2 and whatever AM2 CPU I can afford.

What if any nVidia 6150 type of AM2 / DDR2 motherboards are there out there that I should look at? I want onboard video/audio and LAN minimum. My video right now is a Geforce2 GTS and I won't play too many games. If I want a video card later, I may try for an AGP or PCI-e 6600 GT or something.

So if you have suggestions, please feel free to fire away.

thanx,

🙂

Do NOT look to get a 6150 if you think your GTS is slow. You'll find that the 6150 is nearly identical in speed (especially in 3D games).

When I decided to buy a mb w/ a 6150 I thought the same thing you did. I had a GeForce3Ti and my new board was slower. A week later I bought an inexpensive 6600GT and it scored about 6X better in 3dMark 2003, and made games like Civ4 and Oblivion playable.

Gotcha. Ok, maybe I won't bother with a new motherboard right now and I'll keep my eyes open for an MSI 6600GT and maybe grab that later. As far as upgrading my father is concerned, I have been thinking of grabbing an MSI Neo2 Platinum, get a new CPU for myself, give my father my CPU and get whatever RAM he needs.

morkys- Unless you must get something right now, I'd hold off until the AMD 690G (aka ATI RS690) review hits...which should be very soon.

Once we see how this chipset performs (it has integrated X700 video) we'll know how smart it'll be to go with an nVidia 61x0 or wait for 690G.
