In the past, I've always used Enlight cases to build workstations. Right now we are using Dells but I'm thinkin we might build our own Opteron servers for our next round of upgrades.

Enlight rackmount cases are expensive and don't have redundant power supplies. I've seen some for half price, but didn't know if they are any good. We'd like something lockable, with no less than 5 hotswappable haddrive bays, redundant power supplies, and sturdy.

Let me know what you all like and use. Thanks!

Tried barebones and stuff at Monarch Computers?
Redundant power and hot-swap bays automatically put even a 4U at around $500, maybe $550-$600 w/ rails.
Also, the Tyan barebones at Newegg can be matched by Monarch, but while the Newegg one lacks redundant power, the rails that it comes with are sweet.

I ended up going with this Antec case. Unfortunately, it doesn't have redundant power supplies (in fact I had to replace the one it had because it was not an EPS12V power supply) nor does it have swappable harddrive bays, but I like it. It's sturdy, roomy, easy to work in, and has good airflow (system = 28 C, CPU = 32 C). It also looks great! I would recommend it to anyone wanting a rackmount case.

Keep in mind that the price of a branded server includes an excellent warranty (most times) with turnaround times less than 24 hours. If downtime is costly for you, a prebuilt branded server might be worth the cost.

I agree with that, but if downtime isn't that necissary, I'd use these simply because they have good cooling and 10 drive bays.

A nice case, but still four times what I paid for the Antec.

The warantees on all the parts I got are all 3year, 5year, or lifetime - as good or better than what we have on our Dells. And, we have redundandt servers, so downtime on one server is not important, however being completely down for even 24 hours is NOT an option, so that doesn't really help us anyway. This way, we can get two or three home built servers for the price of one branded server and have server redundancy.
